Course Overview

Most firewall incidents are not exotic. They start with a rule nobody remembers adding, a log nobody reads, or a flow nobody can inspect because it is encrypted. CCSA R82 teaches you to prevent those problems in a Check Point Quantum security environment.

This three-day course is the foundation of Check Point's certification path. It assumes an environment already exists and teaches you to configure, manage, and monitor it. You begin with the three-tier architecture, Gaia, and SmartConsole, then learn who gets to change what: administrator accounts, profiles, and concurrent sessions. Object management and security policy come next, followed by policy layers, where you build ordered layers and an inline DMZ layer and see how layering changes what gets inspected.

The second half is about visibility and control. You tune logging and monitor the state of your systems, then write rules around users instead of IP addresses with Identity Awareness. HTTPS Inspection lets you see inside encrypted traffic, Application Control and URL Filtering govern what people can reach, and Autonomous Threat Prevention closes the course. Every module ends with lab tasks on live systems, over 40 in total.

This is the R82 version. Check Point retired the R81.20 CCSA exam on 30 June 2026, so R82 is now the only current exam. The course prepares you for exam 156-215.82, taken through Pearson VUE, and CCSA is the prerequisite for the CCSE.

The exam changed first: the R81.20 CCSA exam retired on 30 June 2026 and R82 (156-215.82) replaced it. The course changed too, and Check Point community discussions describe the differences between the two as significant. If you studied from R81.20 material, expect gaps, and prepare from the R82 course and lab environment instead.

No. The CCSA exam has no prerequisite, and the course starts with the architecture. Networking fundamentals matter more than product experience, and anyone who has already administered a firewall will find the first modules familiar.

CCSA covers day-to-day administration: objects, policy, logging, monitoring, and the core inspection features. CCSE is the expert level, with a focus on areas such as high availability, VPNs, upgrades and migrations, and clustering. CCSA is the prerequisite for CCSE, so most people take them in that order.

Two years from the date you pass. CCSA cannot be extended with other exams. You renew by passing the CCSA exam within six months of its expiry, which starts a new two-year period, or by earning CCSE.

Most web traffic is encrypted, and a firewall that cannot see inside it can only judge traffic by address and port. Module 8 covers enabling inspection, deploying the gateway certificate to clients, and adjusting rules so you can see and control what the encryption currently hides.
