The term "Level Seven" refers to the application level, the seventh level of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) seven-layer communications model developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The application level interacts with the application processes directly and provides common application services for them. Although it has been mostly replaced by alternative protocols, the OSI model is still useful as a starting point for research on network architecture.
